WANT TO TALK CARPET?
Carpets have been around a long time and the basic manufacturing processes haven’t changed much over time. In recent years, however, a new generation of specialist producers has developed new ways of working. By researching, investing in and developing new, more sustainable and differentiated materials and processes, they are leading a reinvention of the carpet category.
The UK carpet market is dominated by synthetic materials, in fibres, backing and construction, many of which are petroleum-based. Growing concern about embodied carbon is raising questions about this approach. We are committed to promoting carpets that address this environmental imbalance through the use of natural, recycled and non-petroleum ingredients in their construction and installation.
The advances in carpet production and processing have opened up new design possibilities. We seek out forward-thinking producers who are disrupting the market, providing alternatives to the large carpet producers. These innovations include reinterpretations of natural materials, new fibres and backings, recycled and upcycled materials and advances in technology in tufting, colouring and cutting.
